It is reported that a biopic is being made on none other than Devanuru Mahadeva. Titled ‘Maridavaru’, it narrates the story of this legendary personality who holds the prestigious Padma Shri Award. Shivarudraiah of ‘Daatu’ fame is directing the film. Sulile Kumar would be playing the lead role. The actor is well known from his films like ‘Thagaraaru’, ‘Kaalai’ and ‘Kungumum Poovum Konjum Puravum’. Moreover, Samyuktha Hornad and Sonu Gowda would also have a prominent role to play. The film will shed a light on ‘Maridavaru’ which is the most famous work of Devanuru, and thus the same title.
Devanuru Mahadeva is an eminent Kannada writer and is revered as the best Dalit writer. Among many literary circles, he is known as a rebel. He rejected the prestigious award that is offered for Kannada literature - Nrupatunga Award in 2010. He thus refused to accept the grand sum of Rs 5,01,000. He was unhappy with the fact of Kannada not being the primary language used for instruction in educational institutions, though it was the official language of the state. Devanuru created news back in the 1990s too with another rejection. The government offered him nomination to Upper House in the Indian Parliament, but he refused.
